Sparkling NY Black Tie Wedding at The Mount Without
The Mount Without is a unique, local, Bristol venue who’s journey we have followed from the beginning of it’s amazing renovation; creating florals for weddings within this historic + beautiful space is a joy every time + Lowri + Josh’s day was no exception. Their ‘black tie’ style wedding fell just before New Year’s Eve, a perfect excuse for guests to get their sequins on + grab a glass of fizz a little earlier than usual!
Shorter daylight hours create the perfect opportunity to create maximum ambience with lots of romantic candlelight + nothing sets off the charm + character of The Mount Without quite like it. The brief for our flowers was a little like this: blooms reflecting the natural feel of the venue + the seasonal moment in time with luxurious floral touches that compliment the black tie, old school Hollywood glamour style of the dress code. The colour palette was a big part of achieving this look with lots of gorgeous dark green foliages, whites + touches of soft, old gold + neutrals.
The groom + groomsmen wore velvet black tie + the bridesmaids wore sparkling, black sequinned dresses. Lowri wore an elegantly timeless dress with a glamorous, faux fur, bridal shawl + dramatic veil.
For the ceremony set upon the stage at the front of the church we set up a combination of taller + lower designs that framed velvet chaise lounge sofa + grew along the steps creating layers of rambling, winter florals. These designs were left in situ during the wedding breakfast + then framed the stage for the incredible Girls That Mix who bring the best party energy you can imagine! We were so excited to see our flowers share the stage with them!
We worked together with the wonderfully talented wedding stylist, kirsten, founder of The Little Wedding Helper who created a beautifully dramatic, black tie inspired tablescape full of flickering candlelight + seasonal bud vases all styled upon black, velvet runners. The black + white St. Eval candles were the chefs kiss!
The flowers we used for the designs were a combination of winter blooms with luxurious Dutch roses all set within fragrant, seasonal, evergreen foliages with lots of textural elements reflecting the deep mid-winter. The fresh + aromatic fragrance of flowering hyacinths + viburnam, pine + eucalyptus combined is a wonderful thing!
Kirsten artfully styled the welcome table in the entrance hall with bud vases, glowing candles + framed family photographs. Whilst we decorated the inside of the great doorway with growing foliage garlands so as guests entered the venue wafts of scented pine + evergreens greeted them, a taster of what was to come!
Creating wedding flowers at this time of year definitely has it’s challenges due to the flower markets not being open in-between Christmas + New Years; you have to really know what to order + when to order it so that it’s looking just right for the special day. Especially when working with flowers that you buy tight in bud such as anemones + hyacinths, thank fully all of our flowers looked at the peak of perfection! It works so well to reflect + bring the outside in by using seasonal foliages. Winter foliages are darker + heavier than the other seasons with lots of textural details from their hardier leaves + needles designed to withstand the harsher temperatures + weather. It really was a fantastic day! See below for the suppliers who helped create the magic!
